Underwear

As some of you may know from my dad's last post, he is only packing underwear in his bag for the trip.  I honestly do not want to live with him if he's only gonna be wearing underwear.  that's just downright embarrassing.
I'll leave a lot of room in my bag for souvenirs for all of you back home.  I've passed out slips of paper to all my friends that show the URL of this page, so they'll be able to keep up to date with my blog as I go globetrotting.   We've had finals in school this past week, which makes things slightly more difficult for me with getting homework.  Also the computer system at my school crashed, and my teachers are frazzled with trying to get their work done.

Typhoid- Not as Bad as Yellow Fever

So I started the typhoid pills a few days ago, and I love them, especially since they allow me to avoid the terror of shots.  I have to take them every other day and there are four of them.  I'm in the middle right now, an off day, between the 2nd and 3rd pills.  I have yet to get sick.... take that dad.
I'm starting to get really excited about the trip.  We're leaving in ten days (I installed a counter on the blog) and I'm really freaking out.  My friends are starting to say goodbye and I'm collecting my homework from my teachers.  I have Spanish, History, English, Math, and Science.  I also have choir and art, though they don't quite count.  I have to figure out what to pack!!  I'll write more in a few days, when we start really getting ready and packing.  I'm so excited and terrified! In ten days I'll be on an airplane to Cairo.   Talk to you in a few days!

Criteria

I just realized that you guys don't know the criteria for the trip.  We're gonna leave on February 5 and get back on March 7.  We'll start in Egypt and see all the pyramids and stuff, go on a cruise down the Nile... you know, doing touristy things.  This is roughly the first week of the trip.  The next two(ish) weeks are gonna be spent on a safari in Tanzania and Kenya.  For the last bit of the trip we're gonna see Victoria Falls and look around in Cape Town.  We'll be gone for a total of 32 days(4 1/2 weeks).  I'll post the exact dates when I know what they are... probably when they happen.

Typhoid

I'll start taking the pills for typhoid soon.  Let's hope dad doesn't make fun of me for that too.  To Jodie, Ann, and Alison, thanks for your support and I hope my blog is interesting!

Yellow fever sucks. Or at least the shot does.

I figured that since my dad was SO kind as to tell you all about my shot experience a few days ago, I'd have to tell you my end of the story.  First off, I'll just tell you that I HATE shots.  I've even had nightmares about them.  I have a severe phobia of shots and usually end up trying to attack whoever gives them to me.  I started freaking out about the shot I had to get at around 4 P.M. the day it was to take place.  I was incapable of smiling by five and at six I was silent and near tears.  we got to the office at about 6:20, and I was pacing around the waiting room trying to convince myself I could do this.  So far I was doing remarkably well.  I started crying when we got into the room and the somewhat evil doctor tried to help me calm down with some "helpful" information about shots.  I managed to calm down before the actual shot, and I was quite relieved when it was over.  I still had this knot of anxiety and fear in my chest though, and I went into silent hysterics as it drained from me.  Dad was amazed by this.  Anyway, that night I was really cold and tossed and turned all night.  I woke up with crappy symptoms and assumed it was from my shot, so at school I bragged about my terrible case of yellow fever.  Turned out to just be a really terrible cold.  Go figure.

Does it work? OK, cool.

Testing... Testing.  Okay, I think it works.  My name is Kelly Kenoyer and I'm going to Africa in a bit less than three weeks.  I'm from Salem, Oregon, and I'll be gone for the whole month of February.  I've set up this blog so my friends can follow my progress across the continent, along with just about anyone else who would be interested, i.e., no one.  You can check out my dads blog too; it's on this site under the title 2AFRIKAKJ.  Apparently he doesn't know his initials or how to spell Africa.  But that's OK, he has plenty of other talents to make up for his lack of spelling ability, including, strangely, Scrabble.  This is Kelly Kenoyer, and I'll see you in Egypt.
